A whiter, brighter smile can make your smile look great and feel great. This can be easily achieved by our tooth whitening procedures
A crooked smile can be fixed without wires with invisible braces to straighten the teeth, or by placing porcelain veneers to bring some of the teeth forward. Veneers or crowns can also be used to repair broken down teeth.
Missing teeth can be replaced by a denture, a bridge or a dental implant.
We carry out a variety of oral surgery procedures within our practice. Be assured that every care is always taken in every aspect of patient care.
We realise that you are an individual and will discuss the details of the procedure with you, so that you are fully informed. The removal of wisdom teeth is a routine procedure for the surgeons at The Slade Dental Practice & Implant Centre.
Our philosophy is to save teeth whenever possible, however, occasionally, due to infection or accident it is not possible to save a tooth and in these instances we have the expertise to remove them using surgical procedures if required.
Being afraid, or being scared of the dentist, is an age-old, recognised and legitimate fear, sometimes called a “phobia”.
We, at The Slade Dental Practice & Implant Centre, understand that some people are frightened of dental treatment. We are specially qualified and trained to carry out sedation techniques, offering you the latest and most effective procedures available.
Sedation is a simple technique that can remove your worries and fears. Sedation is used to alleviate your anxiety, making you feel relaxed whilst your treatment is carried out.
Endodontics ( Root Canal Treatment)
This is necessary when the blood and nerve supply to the tooth inside the root is infected through decay or injury.
At the first appointment, the infected pulp is removed. Any abscess, which may be present, can also be drained at this time. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped ready for the filling. A temporary filling is put in and the tooth and is left to settle.
The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently filled.
An “apicectomy” is a surgical procedure designed to remove an infection from the tip of the root. It is indicated when, for a variety of reasons, it has proved impossible to cure the infection by any other means.
If left untreated the infection will spread, possibly developing into an abscess or cyst. As well as causing pain, this can lead to bone being damaged around the tooth. As a result, the tooth may become loose. An alternative treatment would be to have the tooth extracted.
The procedure itself takes between 30 – 90 min. The length of the procedure depends of the location of the tooth and also the complexity of the root structure. An apicectomy is carried out under local anaesthetic. The infected tissue at the bottom of the tooth is removed along with the tip of the root and then the root end is then sealed.
Veneers are wafer-thin laminates or shells of tooth-coloured material (porcelain, ceramic or composite bonding material) that are applied to the front of your natural teeth, leaving you with a perfect smile. They require a minimal amount of tooth reduction and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than a crown.
Veneers change your whole smile! They can alter the shape, colour and also be used to straighten your teeth. They are a great option for closing gaps and create a very natural tooth appearance.
Porcelain veneers are a great option for people who drink tea and coffee or smoke tobacco because they resist staining.
If a tooth is broken or decayed, it may be restored by the placement of a porcelain crown.
The tooth is prepared by removing a thin layer of the tooth surface. The colour of your natural teeth is checked so that the crown will match accurately.
An impression is taken of your teeth and is then sent off to our laboratory. Your porcelain crown will be hand made by our laboratory technicians, matching the shade of your new crown to the rest of your existing teeth.
Once the crown is made it will be cemented into place.
How is a tooth prepared for a porcelain crown?
If a tooth is missing, one of the options to replace it could be a porcelain bridge.
There are many different types of bridge, which can be used to replace a tooth or multiple teeth in different situations.
For a fixed-fixed bridge, the teeth on either side of the gap (missing tooth) are prepared by removing a surface layer, using a drill. A shade guide is used to accurately match the bridge to the rest of your existing teeth. An impression is taken and that impression is then sent to the laboratory. A bridge will then be hand made by our laboratory technicians.
Once the bridge is made it will be cemented into place.
A dental implant can be used as an alternative to having a bridge. Dental implants can be used to replace a missing tooth or teeth without any destruction to the adjoining teeth whatsoever.
