Dental Implants

Do you:
- Hide your smile because of missing teeth?
- Feel your dentures are not secure or loose?
- Have difficulty chewing?
- Wish you could smile, speak and eat in comfort and with confidence, but are missing one or more teeth?
If so, then dental implants are for you. Dental implants can replace any number of teeth, from a single tooth to a complete set.
The ideal, natural-looking option

At the Slade Dental Practice & Implant Centre, we are accustomed to carrying out procedures from single tooth replacement to full mouth implant reconstructions (for those with little or no teeth, or denture wearers).
With extensive continual training you can be assured of very predictable long term results at a very high standard. Dr Rash Patel is one of the few dentists in the UK to have a Diploma in Implantology from the Royal College of Surgeons (UK) .
What exactly are dental implants?

A dental implant is commonly made of titanium, a metal that is well-tolerated by the body, which is placed into the jawbone. It is used to support one or more false teeth. A small attachment at the top of the implant emerges through the gum. Crowns, bridges or dentures can then be attached to the implant by screws or clips.
For people in good general health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to disease, an injury, or some other reason, dental implants are an ideal option. They are so natural-looking; you may forget you ever lost a tooth!
What types of dental implant are there?
There are many implant systems in use around the world. At The Slade Dental Practice we will only use implant systems which have a long term clinically approved background.

How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants have been used for over 30 years to replace missing teeth. Depending upon how you look after them, they can last a lifetime.

This patient in her 20’s had their upper tooth extracted due to trauma. An implant was placed and a crown was constructed to replace this tooth. |
The procedure
The actual implantation takes only a short time. With correct preparation and implementation, the risks are minimal. Compared to extraction of a wisdom tooth, implantation is associated with fewer risks and possible complications. Sedation is available for the comfort of our patients.
When healing is complete (6-12 weeks), the implant should be united (integrated) into the bone, providing a solid foundation for attaching a replacement tooth.
Strong, healthy teeth help to preserve the shape of your facial structure. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone deteriorates. The face may appear “sunken in” and people can appear significantly older.
Without teeth, many simple pleasures of life can be impossible, or embarrassing!
Dental implants provide a permanent solution to lost teeth.
An implant can replace the missing tooth and maintain the surrounding bone, giving shape and a youthful fullness to the face.
