1 - 3 Garland Road Plumstead Common London SE18 2RU

At Slade Dental Practice & Implant Centre, your dentist will explore all other options before recommending a tooth extraction.

Possible reasons for an extraction include:

  • Badly broken down tooth which cannot be repaired or restored
  • Extreme or irreversible decay
  • Overcrowded, crooked or overlapping teeth
  • Recurring infection in the tooth or its root
  • Irreparable damage due to an accident, injury or trauma
  • Impacted wisdom tooth, causing an infection
  • Recurring pus collection in the gum below the tooth

Your dentist will assess your medical history and dental condition. They will take the time to explain the rationale behind recommending a tooth extraction, as well as the benefits of the procedure, before proceeding with the treatment.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are located at the back of your mouth and are the last set of adult teeth to develop. Sometimes, due to a shortage of space, they emerge at an incorrect angle or position, or they do not completely erupt.

Impacted wisdom teeth can cause severe pain, and potentially lead to an infection. To address these concerns, your dentist may recommend removal of the wisdom tooth.

A wisdom tooth extraction is one of the most common dental surgeries undertaken in the UK. Your dentist will conduct a thorough oral assessment to determine the location and size of the wisdom tooth, as well as the magnitude of any infection.

Your dentist will carry out the surgery under a local anaesthetic. We also offer sedation therapy to alleviate the anxiety of our more nervous patients.

To schedule a consultation for an extraction, a wisdom tooth removal or other oral surgery, please contact Slade Dental Practice & Implant Centre on 020 8855 2115.
